For too long, working families have been taxed at the same rate as millionaires and billionaires. We can change that by voting yes for the Fair Tax question on the ballot this November.
What is a Fair Tax?
Illinois is one of only four states that makes poor and middle class families pay the same tax rate as the wealthy. The Fair Tax amendment will change the Illinois constitution so that those who make higher incomes pay a higher tax rate and those that make a lower income pay a lower tax rate.
Who pays more & who pays less under a Fair Tax?
A vast majority (97%) of Illinois families will see no increase in their income taxes.
Only the wealthiest 3% of Illinoisans, those making more than $250,0000 a year, will pay more in income taxes. People like Ken Griffin, the richest person in Illinois.
Why do we need a Fair Tax?
A Fair Tax allows Illinois to invest in critical social services that our communities need.
The state of Illinois has one of the largest economies in the country but ranks 47th in spending on public services.
Our current tax system is pushing people out of the state
because we make poor and middle class families pay too much and our state does not fund the services and infrastructure residents need. Healthcare providers struggle to serve patients and low income children aren’t getting the care they need.
A Fair Tax means more money for our schools.
While Illinois depends on property taxes to fund public education, other states have been able to provide their children the schools they deserve with a Fair Tax.
